5 Simple Tips for Choosing Artwork for Your Home

Artwork adds interest, color, depth, emotion and can make great conversation pieces too! Here are a few tips I use as a rule of thumb when choosing art for my home and my clients' homes.

1. Buy what you love.

Your walls should reflect your interests and personality. What grabs you?

Natural elements suck me in every time- from botanicals to coastlines, desert plants to mountain ranges, and everything in between.

I wanted to create a modern coastal vibe in my home, so I went with this fun palm framed canvas in my entry way that reminds me of visiting my grandparents in sunny Palm Springs; and these simple, yet soothing blue botanical prints for my mantle.

3. Consider an abstract piece.

Mix it up to add unexpected movement and drama. I particularly like abstract paintings mixed with vintage eclectic elements like shown above. Image via

4. Incorporate oversized art.

I particularly love large photography to fill an open wall like this. This particular print (above) is minimalistic but makes a big statement. Image via

5. You don't have to spend a fortune on wall art to acquire a killer vibe.

A few of my favorite affordable go-to art sources are Etsy, TJMaxx, Minted, Urban Outfitters, and Target. I continually watch for sales at Pottery Barn, West Elm, Williams Sonoma Home, One Kings Lane and Lulu & Georgia to name a few.
