Dear moldings, I love you!

Are the rounded columns inside homes a thing of the past? Let's chat about it. If your home was built in the early 2000's, chances are you may have some Greek Architecture in your home. What could that be, you ask? Round columns, my friends. Round columns. I am afraid they are out. Dated, gone, not coming back anytime soon. Maybe they are outside your home welcoming visitors when they arrive, or maybe, like my home, they are inside. What to do with them is the question? I no longer wanted them welcoming any outside or inside my home. They had to go.

What would be the best way to "modernize"(it is a word I use at my house when I'm convincing my husband to support my new project.) How did I "modernize" these beauties? Let's just say 1/4" plywood is my friend. So off to Lowes I went. You know that awesome hardware store where everyone waves to me and says "What you working on to today Jeana?" Seriously, it has gotten a little embarrassing.

Before I made the trip, I measured the base and top part of the columns to see how wide I would need them ripped down. (that means cut, in regular language 😜) Next, like all of you gals out there, I have a table saw at home that is my go to machine in my arsenal of saw equipment. But, since it is much easier to load small pieces of plywood in my car rather than a full piece, I went to Lowes to have them done there. No shame in that my friends.

I also needed some mdf and some crown molding so I could jazz them up a little. When I say "jazz" it means, make them square so when people come over they don't want to grab them and swing around like Tarzan. Once I got my plywood, and my MDF and crown molding, I started the fun. I first wrapped the pillars with the plywood.

I used my trusty staple gun and some wood glue to make it all stick together. After I had my columns wrapped in all 4 sides, I added the crown molding to the top and the MDF around each side. You feeling this new look? I sure was. I was starting to see the light already! Say goodbye Greek Goddess, Hello contemporary craftsman! Filled the nail holes with some caulk, then gently sanded down. Next step? I was ready to paint. I LOVE how they turned out. It updated my house with very little money and time. My favorite kind of project. These projects sound overwhelming, but I promise they are not. If this gal can tackle it I promise you can too. You can Facebook me, IG me, tweet me, text me, call or just stop by to see what I did...nevermind, don't just stop by. The other ways may not work either. I have a few kids home for summer and semi busy life. But, I always have time for doing these projects! Hope you enjoy.
