Top 10 Reasons to Live in UTAH

This week I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful family relocating from York, Pennsylvania to Salt Lake City, Utah. Talk about culture shock eh?!

The Long Family and I enjoyed conversation as we traveled up and down I-15 checking out what Utah Real Estate has to offer! As we continued to chat about all the things that make Utah so “unique” the Long’s inspired me to create, “Top 10 Reasons to Live in Utah,” so let’s kick this countdown off:

10. We have the Greatest Snow on Earth

While our license plates say, “Greatest Snow on Earth,” science can prove that Utah snow is actually really incredible, different and more than a marketing hype. Most storms that hit Utah develop over the Pacific, then travel inland, losing moisture density as they go. After passing over the Great Salt Lake, they pick up speed and get colder and drier before spewing down all over the Wasatch.

The effect is perfect for skiing: a nice dense base, topped with fluffy low-density powder. It truly is the greatest snow on earth!

9. Sundance Film Festival

Park City hosts one of the biggest and most influential independent film festivals in the United States. The 10-day festival will kick off this month and will screen over 200 films and attract more than 40,000 attendees, January 19-29th. Click here to check out the 2017 line up.

8. The Great Outdoors, Not Just for Skiing

Where else can you live a decent driving (and possibly walking) distance from some of the best hiking, climbing, boating, boarding, riding, rafting, camping, biking, and running available in world-renowned national parks? The Mighty 5 National Parks in Utah draw several million visitors from around the world to marvel at surreal scenery and unforgettable activities. A great place to start is Moab, Utah. Discover all there is to do in Moab here.

7. For the Sports Enthusiasts

Utah is home to a few major sports teams, both professional and college. If you are an NBA Basketball Fan make sure to catch a home game and cheer for our UTAH JAZZ (Find tix and info HERE.)

Utah also is the home of Real Salt Lake Soccer, a Major League Soccer (MLS) team that won the MLS Cup in 2009, and reached the MLS Cup again in 2013. Before you go to a game, check out our RSL song so you can sing along!

6. The Great Salt Lake

The Great Salt Lake lies just west of Salt Lake City and it’s saltier than the sea. Its salinity fluctuates between 5% and 27%, compared to an average of 3.5% for the world’s oceans. For an out of this world experience take a dip in the Great Salt Lake, you FLOAT!

Science rules.

5. Great Restaurants

Restaurants in the Salt Lake City area have actually received attention from the Food Network and the Travel Channel, specifically from the show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. These Salt Lake City restaurants have been featured on the show.

4. Education and Schools

Everyone is aware of the hottest topic, “What School will my kids or future kids be attending?" Salt Lake City is ranked as one of the Top 50 most educated cities in America by Wallethub. The Salt Lake City area has several major universities and colleges, some of which are known nationally for specific programs.

One of the best resources is GreatSchools.org which provides detailed statistics on the local education.

3. Entertainment and an Epic Music Scene

Of course the new City Creek Center, a $1.5+ Billion project only a few years old, is a great place to hang out, go shopping, eat an awesome dinner, and enjoy all that downtown has to offer.

The Twilight Summer Concert Series in downtown Salt Lake continues to attract some of the biggest names in the business year after year. The local music scene is also boosted by a huge pool of regional talent including Neon Trees, The Used, and Imagine Dragons.

2. Utahns are the Most Generous

Out of all 50 states, people from Utah give the most of their time and money, according to a recently published Gallop Poll. Of those asked 71% had donated money and 56% had volunteered their time (48% did both). Hooray for being voted “Most Likely to Help a Stranger!”

1. Utah Real Estate Market and the PRIME RESIDENTIAL TEAM

Home listing site Zillow just announced its predictions for the 10 hottest housing markets of 2017. Markets that made the list have quickly rising home values, low unemployment rates and strong income growth.

Three Utah markets made the list: Provo, Salt Lake City and Ogden.

Provo, Utah, has the lowest unemployment rate of the 10 hottest markets at 2.7%. Home values in all three Utah markets are expected to appreciate more than 4% this year and there is no one better to help you than your family here at PRIME!

I have a disclaimer: If you find yourself visiting Utah you may never want to leave! Utah is a great place to hang that "Home Sweet Home" sign.

Come enjoy the fun!
