Start with these 3 Things for a BRIGHT New Year

Thinking about the New Year? Ready to set goals, see change and improve? If you're like me, you have a list of things you'd like to improve spanning from health to home. It's hard to know where to start.

When it comes to your home, how about starting with these three things. (You can put the rest aside and tackle them once these are finished.)

1. Go through closets. Time to get rid of the stuff you don't use or need. Make room for order and function. Eliminate and donate! I promise you won't miss that stuff, you'll thank yourself later for simplifying.

2. Repair anything that is broken in your home. Stuff gets broken. Currently my boys have closet doors that no longer slide on the track. Who knows how the track broke, but it did. Do you have repairs that need to be done in your home? Faucets that leak? Towel bars that are on the verge of falling? Cracks or holes? This is the year to focus on those. Living with broken things is not good for your health or your home. (And may I add that repairing broken relationships is a good place to start too.)

3. Update or add lighting fixtures. Here's a great and affordable way to update your house. Update your lighting or adding more lighting can change the feel of your home. It will help the New Year seem brighter! Here are a few places to look for affordable light fixtures:

We love how one of our design bloggers, Amelia Smith, added light to her basement...

Tackling our New Year's goals in small bites makes them easier to accomplish. If you'd like to update your home and add more value, I recommend you start with these 3 things and then move on to the bigger items once these are done.

Happy New Year!
